This is the ducky blanket I made for the baby of one of Moses's Navy buddies. It's pretty simple to make. It's a 4-row garter stitch border. Each square is 32 stitches, and the duck shows up as the contrast between the knit & purl stitches. No need to sew up any squares either! I've made similar blankets before, and I've learned that you really do need to use two strands of yarn to make the contrast show up. Otherwise you end up with some faint blobby-shapped things. Also, this is the first time I've made this pattern using a design that's not symmetrical. That made it just a tad bit more difficult, but still do-able. The size of this blanket makes it good for carseat use, and the two-strand technique makes it thick & warm.

Here's the great thing about babies: they're easy to knit for. The projects work up very quickly. I made this little cabled hoodie for her in about two weeks. It features a cabled hem and sleeve cuffs. Then I cabled up the front center and up the hood. I stayed up extra late one night to finish it so that she could wear it the next day to her cousin's birthday party. I'm currently working on a similar one in gray for next winter.

Wow. It's been over a year since my last post. I've been busy. This is Bazinga, born in November 2010. She was 9lbs 7oz. She's now four months old and has decided that she'd rather not take her afternoon nap unless I'm holding her. Of course, she's more than happy to skip that nap, but that makes bedtime a horrendous affair. She laughed for the first time about a month ago, and it sounded like something straight out of Revenge of the Nerds. So we know she's definitely my child. :-)
